Toenail Growth Timeline Calculator
Estimate how long it may take to see new nail growth and how long a damaged toenail may take to grow out. This helps you track expectations before judging any nail-care routine.

Estimate your nail timeline
Use your current age.
Big toenails are usually slowest.
This approximates how much nail must grow out.
Season can shift growth slightly.
How the estimate works
Toenails often grow around 0.5 to 2.0 mm per month, depending on age, toe, circulation, season, and nail trauma. A full visual change requires the old damaged nail to move forward and be trimmed away while new nail grows from the base.
The calculator uses conservative ranges. It is better to expect a slow timeline than to stop tracking too early.
When to ask a clinician first
Home nail care may be the wrong starting point if there are higher-risk signs. Seek medical advice before experimenting if you have:
- Diabetes, poor circulation, neuropathy, immune suppression, or a history of foot ulcers.
- Pain, swelling, pus, spreading redness, bleeding, or a nail that is lifting from the bed.
- A very dark stripe, fast-changing color, or one nail changing without a clear reason.
- Pregnancy, thyroid disease, or iodine sensitivity concerns.
